Half Term & Halloween Trips

Trips to Take During Half Term & Halloween

As we say goodbye to the summer holidays and the temperature starts to drop, it doesn’t feel like too long before the autumn half-term and Halloween are on our doorstep.

While neighbourhood trick or treating is a great way to keep your little ones in the spooky season spirit and see them looking adorable in their costumes, this time of year is a great opportunity to take the family away.

Here at Jardines, we think of treating the kids and family to an autumn trip away, relishing the beauty of the season. We’ve made a list of some of the best trips for this time of year so you know where to head after you’ve loaded up the car.

Wallington estate in Northumberland

For long walks in the Northern part of the country accompanied by the browning leaves, the National Trust estate at Wallington is a great trip away for all the family. There’s plenty to do, from the heritage tree trail to the playpark for your kids, it’s the perfect autumnal getaway.

Yorkshire Dales in half term

The rolling hills of the Yorkshire Dales are perfect for the October half-term. With plenty of walks with crunchy leaves underfoot, you can finish your evening in a local pub. You can download the free Yorkshire Dales National Park walking app, and there’s always plenty on that you can fill your day with, so keep an eye out!

Autumn trip to the Cotswolds

It’s hard to get more countryside than the Cotswolds, and nothing makes it feel more so than the autumn time. Home to Britain’s Greatest Palace, the Blenheim Palace, with plenty of animals to pet and areas to explore at the Cotswold Farm Park, it could make for a perfect getaway for the season.

If you’re a family with some older kids, or just need a chill running down your spine, there are some great tours and trips to get you in the spirit of Halloween.

The York Dungeon

Yorkshire has no shortage of spooky history to its name, and if you combine a trip to the Dales, as mentioned in the previous section, with a trip to the dungeon, you can have the best of both worlds. Explore 2,000 years of haunted history in this 75-minute tour featuring live actors and special effects to tell the tale of the underground dungeons beneath York.

Stratford Town Ghost Walk

Cobbled Tudor streets assist in conjuring the image of old Stratford Town. From haunted tea rooms to a ghost in the theatre, this walk takes you on a historical tour of ghosts and ghouls in this West Midlands town in Stratford-upon-Avon. This happens every year on Halloween night, and you’re advised to book in advance to make sure you don’t miss out.

Chanctonbury Ring

Of the options on our list, this is not for the faint of heart. The site for spotting all sorts of scenes straight from a horror film, from witches to satanic worships, this circle of trees is found on top of a hill in South Downs, West Sussex. Many have reported feeling like they’re being watched when standing in the centre of the trees, and author Robert MacFarlane claims to have been woken in the middle of the night when staying there by the sounds of human screams above his tent.

Whether it’s a good old-fashioned fright you’re after or just looking to feel the crunchy autumn leaves beneath your walking boots, Jardines has a range of new and used cars for you to choose from to get you where you need to be.
