Stars and their cars: what do the rich and famous drive?

For those of us with normal lifestyles, it seems that the rich and famous inhabit an entirely different world. Whether they’ve shot to stardom through their sporting, acting or singing prowess, that level of wealth and glamour is something most of us cannot even imagine.

With some of the planet’s biggest superstars worth tens, and in some cases hundreds, of millions, it stands to reason that a lot of them like finding a way to spend their fortune. For many a celebrity, cars are a great way to experience the joy of driving while simultaneously showcasing wheels that are the envy of petrolheads everywhere.

So, what cars do celebrities own? From the big screen to the sporting arena and everything in between, these are some of the most famous stars and their cars.

Arguably the first footballer to become a global superstar beyond his efforts on the pitch, former England captain David Beckham has previously been seen swanning around in a vintage Aston Martin V8 Volante. It’s recently been put up for sale, which might interest 20-time grand-slam tennis champion Rafael Nadal or Hollywood star Jason Statham, who has featured in high-octane motoring movies such as The Italian Job and the Fast and Furious franchise.

When it comes to celebrity cars, NBA colossus LeBron James has a collection to rival almost anybody. Among his choices, the LA Lakers star boasts a Porsche 911 Turbo S – not to mention a Lamborghini and a Rolls Royce. But comedian Jerry Seinfeld is the owner of one of the best celebrity car collections, including several classic and modern Porsche models, while Mariah Carey lives up to her diva reputation with a bright pink Cayenne.

Perhaps one of the more notorious celebrity cars in recent years was Justin Bieber’s custom leopard print Audi R8. While that little number certainly turned heads, Zac Efron went for something a little more understated with his S5 coupe. And if it’s good enough for Bieber and Efron, it’s certainly good enough for the Royals, with Princes Harry and William both seen behind the wheel of Audis in the past.

From actual royalty to celeb royalty, Kim Kardashian is one of many stars to revel in the luxury of a Range Rover. Kardashian recently sold her custom model and although it’s sure to have depreciated markedly, it’s hard to imagine that being a problem for someone who is estimated to have a net worth of $780 million. Pop sensation Ariana Grande is not quite in Kardashian’s league when it comes to wealth, but she and Modern Family actress Ariel Winter have both enjoyed the premium comfort and performance of a Range Rover.

British two-time unified heavyweight champion  Anthony Joshua, OBE has taken delivery of bespoke Range Rover this year.

Given he’s won multiple world championships driving on the track for McLaren and Mercedes, you’d think Lewis Hamilton would feel unfamiliar behind the wheel of a Ferrari. But as it turns out, Hamilton has quite the collection, and there’s no denying that Ferrari has become one of the most popular celebrity cars. Rap artist 50 Cent boasts more than one in his assortment and when Gordon Ramsay is not shouting at beleaguered restauranteurs, he can be seen cruising around in his 812 Superfast, LaFerrari Aperta or Monza SP2.

It turns out that some Hollywood stars and their cars just cannot be separated. It’s perhaps fitting that a man who drove BMWs in his role as James Bond in Tomorrow Never Dies and The World Is Not Enough should also turn to one in his personal life. That’s exactly what Pierce Brosnan did with his classy i8. Meanwhile, the likes of Angelina Jolie and David Hasselhoff (famous for his crime-fighting exploits with his virtually indestructible KITT car in Knight Rider) are also fans of the BMW brand.

With an estimated net worth of around $51m, Simon Cowell can afford to splash out. And he’s done just that, with one of the very best celebrity car collections – including an extremely rare Jaguar E-Type. Meanwhile, British tennis icon Andy Murray is doing his bit for the environment by going electric with an I-PACE and former Star Trek lead Patrick Stewart has traded in his Starship Enterprise for an XJS convertible, among others.

The man they call ‘Money’, retired boxer Floyd Mayweather is certainly not afraid to spend it. For Christmas 2019, he bought his daughter a Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG, while his collection is also said to include an SLS AMG and an S 600 from 1996. Away from the world of sport, music royalty Beyonce Knowles and Drake also make it onto our collection of stars and their cars thanks to their high-end Mercedes models.
